Eurocopter EC-155B1 Helicopter Overview

By Gerrard Cowan - Editor, Aircraft Reviews

The Eurocopter EC-155B1, known today as the Airbus H155, is a member of the successful Dauphin turbine helicopter family, providing impressive cabin space for VIP and corporate operators.

The EC-155B1 began deliveries in 2002, and today the helicopter family is flown by approximately 75 operators in more than 30 countries around the world. With a range of 463nm, the aircraft is capable of holding up to 14 passengers in high-density configuration, or six with executive seating.

What features does the Eurocopter EC-155B1 offer?

The EC-155B1 is powered by a pair of 1,046 shaft horsepower Turbomeca Arriel 2C2 engines with FADEC control. It is also built with a retractable gear and a tail Fenestron shrouded rotor.

What came before and after the Eurocopter EC-155B1?

While the Dauphin family has been a strong presence mid-size, twin-engine turbine helicopter market since the 1970s, the introduction of the EC-155 model in 2000 provided something very different to earlier family members.

This is primarily due to its length and wide cabin compared to preceding family members. The EC-155 was replaced by the EC-155B1, which introduced upgraded powerplants.

Today, Airbus Helicopters and Korean Aerospace Industries (KAI), via a dedicated joint venture, are currently producing the EC-155B1 as the Airbus H155 with several improved features.
