The Cessna Citation CJ3 jet, part of a popular family of Light Jets built by Cessna, began customer deliveries in 2004 and continued to be delivered new until 2015.  The CJ3 offered just over two feet additional cabin length compared to the smaller Citation CJ2, along with more powerful Williams FJ44-3A powerplants. It also has longer and wider wings than the CJ2, enabling faster speeds, longer range and greater fuel efficiency.

The AvBuyer Opinion: Built on the popular characteristics of a very well established family of jets, the Cessna CJ3 provides more range, speed, useful load, and passenger capacity than its predecessors and is an extremely well-rounded, affordable Light Jet.

FAQ: Cessna Citation CJ3

  • How many passengers can fly on a Cessna Citation CJ3?

A Cessna Citation CJ3 can seat up to eight passengers (including a belted lavatory seat to the aft of the cabin and an optional side-facing seat opposite the entrance), a more comfortable interior allows for six passengers with club-seating for four and two additional forward-facing seats to the rear of the cabin.

  • How many Cessna Citation CJ3s are in operation?

There are 409 CJ3s in operation around the world currently. (October 2022)

Manufactured between 2003 and 2014 (per JETNET data), Cessna built a total 416 Cessna Citation CJ3s.

  • How do I find a Cessna Citation CJ3 for sale?

You can find Cessna Citation CJ3 jet for sale via AvBuyer’s Cessna Citation CJ3 page.

Or you can search for dealers specializing in Cessna Citation jets. They’ll offer you a solid understanding of the marketplace, including context of how the price of one CJ3 compares to other similar aircraft; identifying options that may not be listed on the open market; and enabling you to get the best value for your money.

  • Can I charter a Cessna Citation CJ3 jet and try before I buy?

Yes, it’s advisable to charter first to help you decide whether the Citation CJ3 is the right aircraft for your mission profile.

You’ll get a good idea of how far you can travel on a business trip, how much baggage room you will need, and most importantly how comfortable the aircraft is for a typical trip.

  • Which is the best engine maintenance program for a Citation CJ3?

If you are renewing the hourly engine maintenance program coverage, there are two choices for Cessna Citation CJ3 operators: The CJ3 is powered by a pair of FJ44-3A engines, and engine manufacturer Williams International provides an hourly engine maintenance program called TAP Blue.

Alternatively, you might prefer to enrol your aircraft with a third-party hourly maintenance cost program provider like JSSI.

Aircraft buyers are strongly advised to look for jets which are already enrolled on such programs. You should also understand what is covered by the existing program before buying your Cessna Citation CJ3.
