So, What Impacts a Jet’s Price?
If you’re in the market to buy a business jet, what are some of the things that will dictate whether an aircraft is worth more or less than the average? Our price guides list some of the key differentiators, such as an aircraft’s age. However, even two aircraft of the same age may not necessarily be worth the same.

One may have flown more hours than the other (adding up to more wear and tear on the airframe and interior and less time before the next major maintenance event is due). Or one jet may not be as well maintained as another.
Alternatively, one aircraft may have been modified (i.e. improved avionics, upgraded cabin connectivity, incorporation of winglets for improved performance and lower operating costs), or been through an overhaul or refurbishment more recently, giving it higher than average value.
Some of these items may not be immediately obvious and should serve to highlight why buyers should always work with an experienced aircraft broker who specializes in the type of jet you’re trying to buy. That way you can gain deeper insights into the marketplace you’re shopping and are more likely to pay a fair price for the jet you buy.

What is the ‘Jet’s Price by Model Year’?
With each business jet price guide, you’ll find up-to-date price trends from the Aircraft Bluebook for the most recent five production years for that aircraft model.

If, for example, an aircraft is in production today, you’ll find an average price for the current year model and an average price for models dating back five years. Alternatively, if the featured business jet’s last year of production was 2020 (for example), average prices will be displayed for models that were built between 2020, dating back to 2016.
As stated, each model-year price represents an average retail value and is updated quarterly. As an average figure, some models will have sold for more and some for less than the stated price, and buyers should use the information as a guideline only.
Why Does the Fleet for Sale Detail Matter?
Our Price Guides also include information on the fleet for sale for the featured jet. Provided by JETNET and updated regularly, it helps establish the percentage of the active fleet for that model that is on the market at present.

Traditionally, when more than 10% of a model’s fleet is for sale the market favours buyers who can drive the price more firmly. When less than 10% of a business jet model’s fleet is for sale, sellers are in a stronger position to drive the eventual sale price.
How Does Maintenance Condition Impact a Jet’s Price?
Finally, where available, information is provided from Asset Insight providing an Asset Quality Rating and an ETP Ratio for the jet model and can be filtered by model year.

What’s the Asset Quality Rating? Asset Insight rates a model on a scale of -2.5 to 10, and provides the following key to help you understand how the fleet of that particular make/model jet for sale rates:
- Asset Quality Rating 5.500 to 10.000: Outstanding Value
- Asset Quality Rating 5.250 to 5.499: Excellent
- Asset Quality Rating 5.249 to 5.000: Very Good
- Asset Quality Rating 4.750 to 4.999: Good
- Asset Quality Rating 4.500 to 4.749: Average
- Asset Quality Rating 4.499 to -2.500: Below Average
What is the ETP Ratio? Representing Exposure to Ask Price, the ETP Ratio provides a useful indicator of an aircraft’s (or a fleet of aircraft for sale’s) marketability. It’s calculated by dividing the aircraft’s ‘Maintenance Exposure’ (the financial liability accrued with respect to future maintenance events) by the aircraft’s ask price. The higher the ETP Ratio percentage, the less marketable the aircraft.
NOTE: The given Asset Quality Rating or ETP Ratio for an aircraft make or model within our Price Guide covers all jets currently for sale for that make or model. Where only a small number of aircraft within that fleet are for sale, the Asset Quality Rating or ETP Ratio can be influenced much more by individual aircraft with particularly high or low ratings.
It’s up to a would-be buyer to obtain this information about a specific aircraft for sale within the fleet.
