The next big thing

Apart from Hawker Pacific’s Shanghai operation- the Civil Aviation Administration of China(CAAC) development of Tianjin Binhai Airport in the Dongli district near Beijing is due to have a major impact on the Business Aviation sector.

Tianjin Binhai Airport is a subsidiary of the Beijing Capital Airport Group. There are ten provinces and two state cities linked to Tianjin- which also has ocean liner services to major ports all over the world- as well as nine express ways and six inter-province roads.

Tianjin Airport Industrial Park lies to the northeast of the airfield- three kilometres away from downtown Tianjin- 30 kilometres away from Tianjin port- and 110 kilometres away from Beijing- to which it is connected with high-speed rail links. The park is a special economic zone specializing in manufacturing- logistics- hi-tech R&D and international trade.

Several major international aviation businesses are in discussions with the CAAC about moving into the park and developing their operations at Tianjin. Companies such as Airbus- Eurocopter- Thales- Safran- Zodiac- the ThyssenKrupp Group- Goodrich- GE- Honeywell- PPG- Textron- Parker- Eaton- IAE- Tyco- Rockwell Collins- Bombardier- CAE- Finmeccanica- B/E- Rolls Royce- Indra and RUAG have all expressed an interest in working there.

Jeff Lowe- director sales & marketing for China’s Business Aviation Asia Ltd. (BAA) predicted that: “The airport will be a big development in the near future in China.” .” BAA has taken land next to the runway within the bonded area- right next door to Airbus.

Execujet and Jet Aviation have also announced plans for Tianjin- and Lowe added that there is a great deal of interest in the site because many companies believe eventually all Business Aviation flights into Beijing will be directed there – Tianjin will become like Teterboro is to New York in the U.S.

China is gradually starting to provide private aviation services. Other airports offering VIP services- although not providing the same level of dedicated Business Aviation facilities include: Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport- Guangzhu Baiyun Airport- Shenzhen Airport Feiyue VIP Club- Dalian Airport- and Huangzhou Xiaoshan International Airport.
