What were the highlights from AeroExpo UK and Heli UK Expo in 2018? How was the show received by the General Aviation industry? Brian Kane reports on what he saw, and a selection of exhibitors offer their verdicts...

From the BEA/Piper/Heli Air/Robinson stand at Wycombe Air Park, I saw a young boy fling his toy glider into the sky and watch with amazement as it spun and circled around him. Possibly, right there, was the birth of a fascination for flight that, along with thousands of others, had attracted visitors to this years’ Heli UK Expo and AeroExpo UK.

At the heart of this wonderful event is a mixture of attractions that are aimed to inform, entertain and excite all who are interested in light aviation.

Awesome aerobatic displays and helicopter games stopped spectators in their tracks whilst others explored the wondrous array of static aircraft. These provided exciting up-close encounters with microlights and luxury executive turboprops, stimulating dreams of piloting and ownership.

Three hangars, full of stands and displays, provided hours of fascinating discoveries for both fixed-wing and rotary enthusiasts. Look further and you could find just about anything an aviation enthusiast could wish for. From Avgas solutions to fire prevention training, from technical seminars to binoculars and lens hoods.

It was there if you cared to look – and all the time, in the background, an army of officials, security staff and helpers worked tirelessly to ensure we were all safe and sorted.

Shared Ambition

BEA Wycombe is proud to be the venue for this event as we both share the same ambition. Light aviation in the UK not only needs an event that brings all levels of interest together but also a place that strives to provide the services and support needed to take every individual’s dreams forward.

At London Wycombe Air Park the members of the BEA group of companies already offer both flying and ground school tuition for private and commercial fixed-wing and rotary pilot trainees. For those interested in aviation engineering, BEA now has excellent training facilities that complement its aircraft engineering and maintenance center.

For those who own and use light aircraft, the group offers all the support services that can ensure aircraft are kept safe and ready for when needed. Even those who just want to experience the exhilaration of flying for half an hour are welcome at BEA Wycombe.

I was delighted to see the interest at our Piper M600 display as visitors queued to experience its luxury and discover the outstanding economy of this new generation of aircraft that promises such an exciting future – both for them and for BEA.

Wycombe has long been central to Heli Air being the premier Robinson Helicopter dealer in the UK but now, as exclusive distributor for Piper Aircraft in the UK, Ireland and the Channel Isles, BEA is positioned to develop and support light aviation right across the spectrum.

We look forward to welcoming you to next year’s Heli UK Expo and AeroExpo UK. If you love flight and flying then it is a must to visit and if that young toy plane pilot returns, he knows where his dreams can take flight.
