The Lang Lang effect

Last year Canadian airframer Bombardier selected internationally renowned classical music star Lang Lang as one of its Business Aircraft brand ambassadors. Recognized worldwide as a top performer and cultural influencer- Lang Lang’s need for flexibility- comfort and timesaving makes him the consummate business traveler.

Steve Ridolfi- president- Bombardier Business Aircraft said- “Lang Lang’s incredible talent and ebullient personality reaches people from all cultures worldwide. His global appeal makes him an ideal brand ambassador for Bombardier- and we are delighted that he has put his confidence in our business jets to help maximize his demanding travel schedule.”

Lang Lang’s travel schedule is incredibly heavy. He began playing the piano at the age of three- and as an adult he became the first Chinese pianist to play with the Berlin Philharmonic- the Vienna Philharmonic and top American orchestras. In 2008 over four billion people viewed his performance in Beijing’s opening ceremony for the Games of the XXIX Olympiad- where he was seen as a symbol of the youth and the future of China. This status has inspired over 40 million Chinese children to learn to play classical piano – a phenomenon coined by America’s influential Today Show as 'the Lang Lang effect.' Heralded as the “hottest artist on the classical music planet” by the New York Times- 29 year-old Lang Lang has played sold-out recitals and concerts in every major city in the world.

He finds private air travel a necessity and said- “Flying on Bombardier business jets allows me to reach audiences worldwide faster- well rested and focused. With an extremely busy show schedule that takes me around the world- the added convenience and freedom of flying on a business aircraft makes an incredible difference in my day-to-day life and productivity.”

Bombardier spokesperson Annie Cossette added- “Lang Lang is recognized as a key cultural influencer in China- and his support of various causes related to the promotion of classical music is renowned worldwide. He embodies the spirit of our global brand very well. “

Lang Lang’s work is international- so he must fly regularly. He continues to give master classes regularly throughout the world at the invitation of the most prestigious music institutions- including the Curtis Institute of Music- Juilliard School- Manhattan School of Music and Hanover Conservatory- as well as all the top conservatories in China where he holds honorary professorships.

Cossette explained further why Bombardier chose Lang Lang. She said- “China is of course a key market for Bombardier. We've been present there for over 50 years- and we intend on maintaining our leadership there. With a solid fleet of over 55 Learjet- Challenger and Global jets based in the country- Bombardier is in a very good position to gain even more market presence. The outlook for China is very positive. Our latest market forecast predicts 2-360 deliveries for China for the 2011-2030 period.”
