Piper Cherokee 180 for Sale

The original Piper Cherokee with the straight wing became available from 1963 with a 180 hp Lycoming O-360 engine and this became the most popular PA-28 model for private owners. It was continually improved and the fuselage was stretched by five inches to give a larger cabin on the Cherokee Challenger. This was later renamed the Cherokee Archer.

Owned in a group for one year- flown it for three. I love its performance over and above the 150hp Warrior (one of which the group also owns)- its low speed handling- short field performance even with two passengers and half tanks. Its forgiving to fly- comfortable in the front seats at least- very tough- ergonomically sound. Would recommend to others. The group would ideally like to replace with an Archer 3- essentially the same AC but 30 years younger - the 180 engine is that good- for those of us who just want to fly fixed-pitch/gear its the pick of the bunch in terms of performance and load-lugging.

Great basic aircraft- cheap to buy now. solid and dependable. no vices. 180hp version better than lower powered versions.

Flying should be simple when you are introduced into training for your private certificate. The Piper Cherokee 180 is a perfect example of simple performance- controls- utilization for regional flying- x-c time- and operating costs. Consider the aquisition of of a Cherokee and the value that these aircraft retain compared with other models of single engine piston aircraft. This aircraft has multiple STCs for its time and the relative cost to upgrade and install engines- avionics- accessories- and other STOL items gives the plane many uses. There is no doubt that Mr. Piper has kept his focus on economic operations for individual flyers and small family outings. I would strongly advise that a pilot who is interested in one- makes sure to keep in mind load limitations with a Cherokee that has less than 180hp. Other than that- load her up with around 40 gallons and cruise at 110ktas for about a 4.5hr flight approx. 500nm staying clear in the flight envelope. That being said- fly safe and pick an altitude below 10-000ft pressure altitude and wag your hershey bar wings to your friends.
