While the Beech Travel Air twin was successful, Beech was able to improve its performance considerably with the Model 55 Baron which has 260 hp IO-470 or, on later models, 285 hp IO-520 engines in flat profile engine nacelles. It has a swept tail, longer side windows and a higher useful load and, from the B.55, is configured to carry six people.
