SUPERIOR Air Parts Resumes Engine Shipments

Superior Air Parts has resumed shipping its Experimental XP series of engines. Sales stopped when the company declared bankruptcy years ago. Superior Air Parts is now a subsidiary of Superior Aviation Beijing following its purchase by a Chinese company.

The parts are the same formerly used in the company’s FAAapproved 180-horsepower Vantage engine- except for improvements unique to Superior. For example- the XP can include- if the customer desires- roller lifter bearings and a cold air induction sump. There is consideration at Superior for getting FAA approval for the two modifications so they can be included in the Vantage engine. If desired- the homebuilder can have an XP engine with all FAA-approved parts- leaving out the roller lifter bearings and the cold air induction sump.

Tim Archer- president and CEO of Superior Air Parts- said he hopes the Vantage engine can return to the market by the end of the summer. “The resumption of engine shipments may not seem like news- but it’s a very big step for our efforts to get our business back to where it was four years ago-” Archer- said. “From a business perspective- the big picture is that we now have all of the various components and piece parts in stock to not only assemble a complete engine- but also to be able to support the needs of homebuilders and engine shops.

328 Support Services Selects Rockwell Collins For New SkyBird

328 Support Services has selected Rockwell Collins as the provider of the In Flight Entertainment (IFE) system that will be installed on the next two 328DBJTM VVIP interiors. The two 12-seat executive jets- which are being converted for Nigerian-based SkyBird Air will have the system installed at 328 SSG’s headquarters at Oberpfaffenhofen Airport- Munich. Delivery is planned for late summer.

The newly developed Rockwell Collins cabin management product called “Venue” offers a number of benefits for the 328DBJTM VVIP cabin. The IFE product features the latest generation of high definition screens- intuitive interfaces for users- and provides a home cinema experience in the air. The unit offers an IP-based- network-enabled system which enables passengers to stay connected in flight with connectivity provided by Aircell. Passengers will also be able to connect portable media devices such as their iPod® or iPhone®. Importantly Venue is also lighter than its competitors- has a shorter hardware delivery time- and can be tailored to specific customer requirements. JETS Expands with New UK HQ Paint Facility.

Jet Engineering Technical Support (JETS)- the Challenger- Hawker and Dornier aircraft maintenance centre based in Bournemouth- UK- is expanding its facility with the opening of a new dedicated paint bay. The introduction of the new paint area will enable JETS to offer a one-stop-shop capability to customers- who will be able to schedule aircraft painting work as part of the routine maintenance input.

The paint facility is the result of a significant investment by JETS in a newly-acquired hangar located at the company’s Bournemouth base where it relocated to from Southampton in August 2010. The building increases JETS’s hangar space by 50% from 2-250m2 to 3-370 m2 and underwent considerable refurbishment including the installation of new hangar doors- and heating and extraction equipment to make it fit for purpose. The size of the hangar means JETS can now accommodate larger aircraft such as the Falcon and Gulfstream fleet types.

Major new Dornier 328 contract
JETS paint activity is led by Paintshop Supervisor Tony Purvis - who has over 30 years’ experience in aircraft painting. He will supervise a team of 5 specialists on a major new contract for seven Dornier 328 aircraft to be completed in the next 12 months for a North American customer. Purvis comments- “the new paint facility enables us to take on larger projects and ensures we can provide a full service range to our expanding client base. The 328 contract is an example of how the larger hangar- and improved offering can attract major deals.

JETS is also the UK’s only MRO type-approved for the Dornier 328. More recently JETS completed a major maintenance and refurbishment input on a Bombardier Challenger which also included overhauled landing gear and avionics upgrade- and the JETS trim shop supplied new seats and carpets.
