Built by Diamond aircraft in Austria, the DA-42 Twin Star is an all-composite four-seater with a separate rear entry door for passengers and fitted with a Garmin glass cockpit. The initial Twin Star had TAE Centurion diesel engines but the latest DA42-VI uses Austro Engine AE 300 2.0 litre diesels and there is also a version with Lycoming IO-360s.
The DA42 Twin star is an amazing plane. I got trained on it for my CPL and IR. Its possibilities are tremendous. The Garmin G1000 combined with G700 AP offers equivalent features to modern jets (such as embraer 190) in terms of flight planning- diverting- fuel management... It seats 4 people comfortably- and wil also take small pieces of luggage in the nose and aft compartment. The only weak point of this plane is in unusual situations such as N-1 go around... its lack of power in this configuration can be surprising (at least with the original Thielert engines..).
